What is Guar Gum?
Guar gum is a plant gum that can be extracted from the fruits of carob trees and guar beans. Carob is a perennial shrub that mainly grows along the Mediterranean coast. Guar is an annual legume family, mainly growing in desert-like areas such as India, Pakistan and Texas in the United States. It is suitable for growing in areas with large temperature differences between day and night and sufficient rain. The guar gum currently used is basically extracted from guar beans. After the mature guar beans are peeled, they are sent to a grinding and processing factory. The guar beans are separated into endosperm sheets, germ and skin by thermal chemical treatment. Germ is often used as feed for animals with high protein content. The endosperm sheets are processed into guar gum in the grinding processing plant.
What is the function of Guar Gum?

1. Bioimmobilized carrier material: Guar gum can be used to prepare immobilized tyrosinase biofilms.

2. Application in the field of drug controlled release: Guar gum is a natural polymer of galactomangan. It is only degraded by bacteria at the colon site and is an important candidate material for targeting colonic drug release carriers. However, its high water solubility and swelling nature lead to intragastric release of drugs, limiting the application.

3. Application in fishery and environmental protection: Adding guar gum as a binder to feed significantly enhances the particle stability and mechanical strength of fish feces, facilitates timely cleaning of feces, and reduces the harm to fish.
