What is D-Galactose?

White crystal or crystalline powder, no special odor, soluble in water and pyridine, solubility in water: 680 g/L (25° C); Slightly soluble in glycerol and alcohol. Galactose is a monosaccharide consisting of six carbons and one aldehyde, and is classified as aldose and hexose. Both D-galactose and L-galactose occur naturally. 

What is the function of D-Galactose?

D-galactose generally exists in milk as a structural part of lactose, and the lactose in milk is broken down by the human body into glucose and galactose is absorbed and utilized.
