What is Piperine ?


Piperine is a broad-spectrum anticonvulsant with the chemical formula C17H19NO3.Colorless monoclinic prism crystals, odorless, with burning sensation after taste.Neutral to litmus reagent.Soluble in chloroform, ethanol, ,soluble in benzene and acetic acid, almost insoluble in water.It can be extracted from the dried near-ripe or ripe fruit of Pepper (Piper nigrum L.).It has a good antagonism effect on experimental electric convulsions in mice, and is effective against convulsions and audiogenic seizures caused by pentylenetetrazol, picrotoxin, strychnine, and intraventricular injection tubes of curine and glutamic acid.There are varying degrees of resistance.It is also effective for certain types of epilepsy.Piperine is more toxic to flies than pyrethrum.

What is the function of Piperine ?

Piperine and its congeners are absorbed through the skin and thus act on the subcutaneous tissue, nerves and blood vessels.In addition, pharmacological studies have shown that piperine can prevent atherosclerosis, lower blood lipids, have anticonvulsant and antiulcer activities, protect the liver, and will not damage the function of the testis.And whether it is in vivo or in vitro, piperine can also slow down the peristalsis of the intestines.
